How it works
What is the Twitter Video Downloader?
The Twitter Video Downloader is a free tool that saves the video from an X post as an MP4 file. Paste the post's link and it lists every quality X serves for that video, with the resolution and bitrate, best first, and a download button for each. A post with more than one clip lists each clip on its own.
How to use the Twitter Video Downloader
- On X, open the post, tap the share icon and choose Copy link.
- Paste the link into Post URL. Links from x.com and twitter.com both work.
- Press Fetch media. The post appears with every quality of its video listed. If the post holds a GIF or photos instead, the tool says so and names the downloader to use.
- Press Download next to the quality you want. The top one, marked Best, is the highest.
Which video quality should you download?
The one marked Best, at the top, is the highest resolution and bitrate X serves for the video. Take it when you will edit the clip, crop it or show it on a large screen.
The lower qualities are smaller files. They suit a messaging app, a slide or a phone, where the extra detail would not show and the file size would. For a post with a GIF, use the Twitter GIF downloader, and for photos, the Twitter image downloader.
Is it legal to download Twitter videos?
Only save media you have the right to use: your own videos, clips the owner has licensed, or material you are using in a way the law allows, such as commentary.
Before you post a downloaded video anywhere else, ask the person who posted it, and credit them.
Does the downloader add a watermark or change the video?
No. The file you save is the MP4 that X itself serves for that quality, passed straight through to your browser without re-encoding, trimming or a watermark.
Each file is named after the account's handle, the post's ID, the clip's place in the post and its resolution, such as spyc-1234567890-1-1280x720.mp4, so clips from one post stay together in your Downloads folder. A thumbnail with the clip's length sits beside the buttons, so you can check it is the right video before you save it.
Can you download videos from private or deleted posts?
No. The downloader can only read posts that anyone can see without logging in. If the account is protected, or the post has been deleted, the tool says the post was not found rather than returning anything.
It also needs a link to the post itself, in the form x.com/user/status/123. A link to a profile, a search or a list does not work, and the tool says so. You can paste the post's numeric ID on its own instead of the full link.
Can you download a Twitter video as MP3?
Not here. The downloader saves video as MP4, which carries the sound track with the picture. To keep only the audio, open the MP4 in an audio editor or a video-to-MP3 converter and export the sound.
No app, browser extension or X account is needed for the MP4 itself. The page works in any current browser on a phone, tablet or computer.
Why did a download fail?
Usually because the download link was too old or too many files were requested at once. Each download button points to a link that is meant to be used soon after you press Fetch media. If a file says the link has expired, fetch the post again for fresh buttons.
The page also limits how many files one visitor can download in a few minutes. If you see a message about too many downloads, wait a few minutes and try again. A video X has removed since you fetched it shows as no longer available. To see how a post performed before you save it, the Twitter analyzer reads an account's recent posts.
Questions
- How to download Twitter videos for free?
- Copy the post's link on X, paste it into this downloader and press Fetch media. Pick a quality and press Download to save the MP4. It is free and needs no X account.
- How to download Twitter videos on iPhone?
- In the X app, tap share on the post and Copy link. Open this page in Safari, paste the link, press Fetch media, then Download. Safari saves the MP4 to Downloads in the Files app, and from there you can save it to Photos.
- How to download Twitter videos on Android?
- In the X app, tap share on the post and Copy link. Open this page in Chrome, paste the link, press Fetch media and press Download. The MP4 goes to your Downloads folder.
- How to download Twitter video with caption?
- The MP4 carries the video itself. The post's text is shown above the download buttons, so copy it from there and keep it with the file, or paste it into your caption when you share the clip with permission.
- Will the person who posted the video know I downloaded it?
- No. The downloader does not log in to X or interact with the post, so nothing is sent to the account that posted it. Ask them yourself before you reuse the clip.
- Can I download Twitter videos without an app or extension?
- Yes. Paste the post's link into this page in any browser and press Fetch media. It needs no app, no browser extension and no X account.
