How it works
What is the Instagram Engagement Rate Checker?
The Instagram Engagement Rate Checker is a free tool that works out the engagement rate of any public Instagram account from its posts. Paste one to ten post or Reel links, and it works out each post's likes and comments against the account's followers, then grades the average rate against the typical range for an account that size.
How to use the Instagram Engagement Rate Checker
- Copy the links of one to ten public posts or Reels from the same account. Post, Reel and profile-style links such as instagram.com/name/p/... all work.
- Paste them into Post links, one per line.
- Press Check engagement.
- Read the average engagement rate by followers, its grade from Low to High, and the typical range for an account this size beneath it.
- Check Post by post for each link's likes, comments and rate, to see which posts pulled the average up or down.
How do I check the engagement rate of any Instagram account?
Open the account, copy the links of a few recent posts or Reels, and paste them here. The checker works from the post links you paste, so it suits a competitor, a creator you might hire and your own account alike.
For each post the rate is (likes + comments) ÷ followers × 100, and the headline figure is the average of those posts. Ten recent posts give a fairer picture than one, because a single post that took off can make an account look far more engaged than it usually is.
What is a good engagement rate on Instagram by follower count?
It depends on account size, because smaller audiences interact more per follower. Typical ranges the checker grades against include 3.16% to 3.85% under 5K followers, 0.49% to 0.65% from 10K to 50K, 0.35% to 0.46% from 100K to 500K, and 0.45% to 0.57% at 1M and over. Every result shows the typical range for that account's size.
A rate inside the range grades Average. Above it is Good, and well above it is High: under 5K followers, Good starts above 3.85% and High above 6.16%. Below the range is Low.
Why check engagement before working with an influencer?
Followers can be bought, so a large follower count on its own says little about who is paying attention. An account of 50K followers averaging 100 likes and comments a post (0.2%, Low) gets fewer interactions than one of 15K averaging 150 (1.0%, Good).
Paste the creator's last ten posts, not their pinned ones, and compare the rate with two or three accounts of a similar size in the same niche. The Post by post table shows whether the average is steady or rests on one standout post. To see what that creator could reasonably charge, enter their followers and rate in the Instagram Money Calculator.
Why does the checker only accept posts from one account?
Because the rate divides each post's likes and comments by one follower count. Posts from two accounts would be measured against the wrong audience, so the checker stops and asks you to paste one account's posts at a time. Duplicate links are counted once.
The account has to be public. A post from a private account, or one that has been deleted, cannot be read, and the checker names the post it could not open so you can swap it for another.
Why are some engagement rates marked as estimates?
Instagram shows large counts rounded, such as 1.2M followers or 12.4K likes, so for big accounts the inputs are already approximate. When that happens, the result says the rates are close estimates rather than exact figures.
Some owners hide like counts. For those posts the checker can count comments only, which pulls their rate down, and the result says so. If several posts have hidden likes, read the grade as a floor and lean on the Post by post table.
Can you check TikTok or Facebook engagement here?
No, this checker reads Instagram posts and grades them against Instagram ranges only. Engagement on TikTok and Facebook is usually worked out the same way, interactions divided by followers or views, but typical rates differ by platform, so an Instagram grade would mislead.
For X, the Twitter engagement rate calculator works out the same kind of rate for posts on X.
Questions
- How do you check engagement rate on Instagram?
- Add a post's likes and comments, divide by the account's followers and multiply by 100. To do it for any public account, paste up to ten post links into this Instagram Engagement Rate Checker, which works out each post's rate and the average. For one post with saves, shares and reach, use the Instagram Engagement Rate Calculator.
- What is a good engagement rate on Instagram?
- It depends on size. Typical ranges include 3.16% to 3.85% under 5K followers, 0.49% to 0.65% from 10K to 50K, and 0.45% to 0.57% at 1M and over. Anything above the range for the account's size grades Good or High here.
- What is a good engagement rate on Instagram for 1,000 followers?
- For an account with around 1,000 followers, 3.16% to 3.85% is typical. Above 3.85% grades Good and above 6.16% grades High, which for 1,000 followers means more than about 62 likes and comments on an average post.
- Can I check the engagement rate of an Instagram account I don't own?
- Yes. Paste links to its public posts or Reels, and the checker works out each post's rate and the account's average exactly as it would for your own account.
- Does the checker work with Instagram Reels?
- Yes. Reel links and post links both work, and you can mix them. Each counts likes and comments against the account's followers, so a mix gives the account's overall rate.
- Is this Instagram engagement rate checker free?
- Yes. Paste up to ten public post or Reel links from one account and it returns each post's rate, the average, and a grade for the account's size.
- How do I check someone's Instagram engagement without their login?
- Copy links to their recent public posts and paste them here. The checker reads the public like, comment and follower counts, so it needs no login and the account owner is not told.
